Alpine Club of Pakistan becomes Full Member of International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC)




It is announced with great pleasure that Alpine Club of Pakistan has been admitted as Full Member of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) during its Annual General Meeting held at Amsterdam, Netherlands on 25 February 2012. It may be submitted that ACP, being the only mountaineering and climbing federation of Pakistan had earlier submitted its application for becoming Full Member of IFSC. Mr Abu Zafar Sadiq, CP Secretary participated in the IFSC AGM on the special invitation from the Secretary General IFSC. He made a strong presentation on the admission of Alpine Club of Pakistan in IFSC. ACP is already engaged in the promotion of mountaineering and climbing (rock, ice and sport) in the country since its establishment in 1974. Mr Abu Zafar Sadiq highlighted history of ACP and achievements it has made over past 37 years, which also included holding of the first National Sport Climbing Championship at Islamabad from 9 to 10 December 2011. ACP was admitted as Full Member unanimously by all 43 voting right members from 43 countries present during the AGM. It may be mentioned that President China Mountaineering Association who is also President of the Asian Council of IFSC had specially lobbied ACP's case in the IFSC AGM in line with the strong friendship that exists between China and Pakistan as well as the CMA and ACP. On the occasion Lt Col Manzoor Hussain (Retd), President ACP has thanked President CMA for his strong support for ACP's admission in this International Sport Climbing Federation.
