ACP Delegation to attend UIAA and UAAA General Assemblies
being held at Kathmandu, Nepal – 6th to 9th October 2011
After a lapse of few years, ACP is active again at the international scene when ACP Executive Council decided to participate in the General Assemblies of the International Union of the International Alpine Associations (UIAA) – the international mountaineering and climbing federation, and the Union of the Asian Alpine Associations being held at Kathmandu, Nepal from 6th to 9th October 2011 on the invitation of the friendly Nepal Mountaineering Association. The delegation is headed by President ACP Col Manzoor Hussain (Retd) with ACP Executive Council members Mr Ayaz Ahmad Shigri and Mr Mohammad Nasir Awan as delegation members.
At the UIAA, President ACP shall be making his presention on “Pakistan - Mountaineering Expeditions and Trekking” in the Symposium being held on 6th October on mountaineering, ice climbing and Climate Change with a view to lure in more international mountain tourism to Northern Pakistan. He will especially emphasise the unlimited adventure opportunities which Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Swat and Kaghan offer for the youth. In the UIAA General Assembly, the ACP delegation will interact with the world mountaineering associations offering them launching of joint mountaineering expeditions and other climbing programmes to Pakistan in the coming years. The ACP delegation will also be distributing PTDC and ACP literature on mountain tourism to all the delegates from the international mountaineering associations.
In the General Assembly of the UAAA, the President ACP will inform the Asian mountaineering associations about the activities of the ACP and will invite the Asian Union to hold their General Assembly in Pakistan next year besides finalising various joint training as well mountaineering and climbing programmes. On the occasion the delegation will also brief about the Relief activities undertaken by ACP in Gilgit Baltistan during the floods of 2010 and shall thank UAAA and Korean Alpine Federation for the generous donation of warm clothing for flood victims of the mountain communities around Nanga Parbat, Skardu and Atabad lake.
The opportunity will also be utilised to interact with Nepal Mountaineering Association, Officials of Nepal Tourism Ministry, various other organisations connected with Mountain Search and Rescue, preservation of the environment and climate change.
