Sports Climbing Team
attends Training in Beijing, China
China Mountaineering Association trains ACP Sports Climbing Team Climbing Techniques by China at Bejing, People’s Republic of China
ACP , in view of the close friendly relationship enjoyed between People’s Republic of China and Pakistan and between ACP and China Mountaineering Association (CMA) and China Tibet Mountaineering Association (CTMA) had invited CMA, to participate in the Joint Pak China Expedition to Spantik Peak (7028 m) in July 2011 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic relations between People’s Republic of China and Pakistan. It may be mentioned that CTMA launched seven Joint China Pak expeditions with ACP and jointly climbed five peaks of Pakistan rising above 8000 metres between 1997 and 2007.
CMA due to late receipt of the ACP proposal, proposed deferring the Joint China Pak Expedition to 2012 and instead invited ACP Sports Climbing Team for training at Beijing under CMA arrangements as part of the Joint Celebrations. CMA also proposed the team to observe World Cup and participate in local rock climbing and Sports Climbing competitions commencing from 5th September 2011. As the invitation was received on 6th August, the Sports Climbing Committee underwent marathon sessions to select suitable candidates for the climbing training out of the climbers (both rock and sports climbers) who had performed during the past few years under various affiliate Club competitions. It may be mentioned that Sports Climbing Wall was constructed at Islamabad during 2010 with few local competitions held. After due deliberations by the Committee spread over few days, finalization of the team was done by third week of August and the same was presented in the Executive Council. The team finally selected was:
- Team Leader: Mr Abu Zaffar Sadiq – Secretary ACP
- Team Coach: Mr Mohammad Zubair Farooqi, Convener
- Team members
(1) Zeeshan Nawaz Khan (Islamabad)
(2) Usman Tariq (Punjab Gujranwala)
(3) Zaki uddin Kazmi (Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilgit)
(4) Dr Naveed Iqbal (Khyber Pukhtoon Khawa, Swabi)
The team left Islamabad on 4th September 2011 and reached Beijing on 5th September. On 6th September the team flew to Chanxi to watch the Sports Climbing World Cup (for which ACP had not entered) which was held under International Federation for Sports Climbing from 7th to 8th September 2011. It was a big and enriching experience for the team to watch the highest possible standards of Sports Climbing, especially seen in Speed Climbing. On 10th September the team left for Rock Climbing site near Chanxi where an international rock climbing competition on a 70 m high difficult rock pitch was conducted for two days. Due to non availability of such a high rock pitch t home the team could not perform well. On 14th September the team participated in the Chinese national wall climbing championship where the team could not get any mentionable position. The team returned to Beijing on 16th September where it underwent Sports Climbing training by the trainers of CMA at their Climbing Centre near Great Wall of China. The training concluded on 21st September. During the training the team learned numerous new techniques besides learning physical exercises for Sports Climbing.
The team was very well looked after by CMA officials and President CMA Mr Li Zhixin hosted a dinner for the team before their departure back to Pakistan. The Team leader and ACP Secretary Mr Abu Zafar Sadiq thanked all the CMA officials and staff for their cooperation, warmth and hospitality true to the close friendly relations enjoyed by CMA and ACP. The team returned to Islamabad on 23rd September 2011.
