Major General Irfan Arshad HI(M)
Pakistan is blessed with some of the world’s most magnificent mountain ranges – the Karakoram, Himalayas, and Hindu Kush and is home to five of the fourteen 8,000-meter peaks, including the majestic K2. These peaks are not only a source of national pride but also a global symbol of alpinism, resilience, and natural beauty. Pakistan offers a wide range of outdoor pursuits for nature enthusiasts and thrill-seekers of all ages. The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) stands at the forefront of promoting, preserving, and facilitating mountaineering and adventure climbing sports in this unparalleled landscape.
While there has been a notable surge in interest among youth for activities like mountaineering, rock climbing, trekking, and hiking, there is still a need for more encouragement for outdoor activities. In today’s digital age, where excessive screen time can have detrimental effects on physical and mental health, it is essential to promote a culture of outdoor exploration and adventure.
As President, my vision is to strengthen the role of ACP as a platform that fosters safe and responsible mountaineering, supports local climbers and guides, promotes environmental conservation, and enhances international collaboration. We are committed to promote Pakistan’s mountains as safe, environmentally well-kept destinations, supported by improved infrastructure and trained human resources. We are dedicated to developing training programs, preserving mountains and their local heritage, and creating opportunities for youth to engage in this noble pursuit. Through these efforts, we hope to inspire a new generation of young Pakistanis to discover the beauty and wonders of our country.
